Utilising science fiction as a backdrop from which to contest fixed notions of race, migration and identity, Shezad Dawood's Piercing Brightness is one of the more unique British films this year. It also has an equally interesting soundtrack, which features Japanese band Acid Mothers Temple, Mordant Music, Alexander Tucker & Decomposed Orchestra, and Raed Yassin & Omar Dewachi. As you'd expect from such a cast, the music covers bases between otherworldly dub, radiophonic concrete and psychedelic guitar textures, and is a beguiling listen in its own right.
