"All I Need Is Lovin'" is considered the "signature song" of African-American jazz singer and bandleader Blanche Calloway (1902-1978). She grew up in Baltimore in a middle-class family with a younger brother named "Cab" and, by the early 1920s, was appearing in shows including Shuffle Along and Plantation Days. In the 1930s, her music career went into decline as her brother's gained momentum. In the 1950s, she was active in the civil rights movement and helped r&b singer Ruth Brown get her start in the business. This Victor features "There's Rhythm in the River" and "All I Need Is Lovin'," recorded March 2, 1931. SOL, graying, scuffs, light scratches, plays well despite shabby appearance. Condition V--
NOTE: To determine condition, I inspect records visually and play sides or parts of sides when possible. My equipment is state-of-the-art for the 1940s and 1950s. The system includes a 1946 Magnavox Belvedere radio-phonograph that has been upgraded with a 3-speed turntable from the 1950s. The tone arm is fitted with a M44C Shure cartridge with a 3 mil stylus. The quality of the music reproduced sounds clean, crisp and full-bodied to my seventy-year-old ears, but more sophisticated and sensitive systems may be less forgiving.
