It's been a year of pleasant surprises themed around Alessandro Cortini. Mostly known for his role in Nine Inch Nails, the Italian artist has taken on a number of unexpected projects that have resulted in some fine electronic music. The excellent Sonno album for Dominick Fernow's Hospital Productions under his given name has been followed by some stripped down droning techno experiments for the Avian label as Skarn, and now this Panzerkreuz debut. Operating under another new guise, Slumberman, the five-track Mono-Acidic is a bit more restrained than the usual guttural squat rave tools you would find on the Bunker sublabel, yet the general lurching nature adds a somewhat foreboding quality to proceedings.
