Wavves' Nathan Williams has earned himself both a certain loose-cannon notoriety and a reputation as one of the more talented tunesmiths on the post-grunge block. Thankfully the latter is rather more prevalent than the former on this debut by his new outfit Spirit Club, which he put together with his brother Joel and friend Andrew Caddick (AKA Jeans Wilder.) Taking a somewhat more sunny and shoegaze-tinged perspective on his trademark and tastefully unkempt stylings, these heavy-lidded, serenades are of a psych-addled and radiant stripe, and as likely to appeal to Beach Boys and Flaming Lips nuts as fans of the quasi-Dinosaur Jr. stylings of his more famous troupe.
