This is one of the very finest early music albums ever produced. An audiophile Harmonia Mundi LP pressed in West Germany, the sonics on this album are well-known as being superlative; breathtaking sound capturing every nuance of Janet See's performance, conducted by Nicholas McGegan.
This record is on Arthur Salvatore's Divinity list of the 25 finest-sounding records ever made; he said of it "This is another stunning recording by Peter McGrath and the U.S. recording team. It is very immediate and extremely natural, pure and clean, even at higher volumes. The dynamic contrasts are excellent. The retrieval of detail of the soloist is so complete that it could actually be uncomfortable hearing all the detailed intimacies of the breathing and the shape and humidity of the mouth etc. There is also a large soundstage, with depth, plus superb focus of the instruments. I think this recording is one cut above the other outstanding chamber records by this team which were already put on this list."
Records like this one don't come around very often, and this one is in great condition - glossy and shiny and offering stunning sound. When studied very closely in very strong light, it's possible to see some faint scuff marks. There are two spindle marks on the inner label. The lightest of very occasional surface noise on Side A. Vinyl condition is graded conservatively as VG++. The record cover has slight adhesive tape residue along the top seam (see photograph) and a tiny impact mark on the bottom right corner (see photograph). The cover is graded as EX.
