Scottish industrial icon Drew McDowall is one of those greats who should be instantly recognized by any record collector; Luckily, we're nice guys here at Juno HQ, and so we're totally fine with introducing him to those who haven't heard of him before. McDowall was a member of the legendary Coil band since 1995, and he's also released plenty of solo work as Screwtape. He's decided to resurface under his own name, and his debut LP comes courtesy of New York's Dais Records, a six pieces of pure electronic experimentation. The album is spectral throughout, and contains much of the industrial era's grey-scaled melancholia, starting with the dreary waves of ambience on "The Chimeric Mesh Withdraws (Part 1)". The rest of the release unfolds into angrier bursts of drone and noise, an energy that peaks with the wonderfully fluttering and metallic swings of "Convulse". This is our s*** right here, we love it!
