WHOLE LOTTA BIX! (check my other auctions!) Original rare jazz disc from one of the early masters, who remains cool and collectible and forever 28!
Gotten from a recent purchase of archived records from the old KWK record catalogue of 78's. Very Hot jazz from 1928, GREAT player and original OKEH black label pressing with the band in fine form!
I come from the Goldmine school, and while this record sounds about VG, visually it's a G/G+. Nice labels, very light spindling, some original gloss peeking through the surface scuff on the disc. Some evident play wear, some stylus/hairline scratches, nothing devastating, only a few audible tics. Not much grey grooves from play on the brutal phonographs of the era, no skips, a nice player!
I have other RARE BIX 78's… more than any other seller out there! Some are very clean, some are well-loved, all well-kept in a closed cabinet in heavy green card stock radio station covers. The hearty deep groove pressing sounds great for an original from 1928.
Included is a link in HD, unfiltered complete recordings of both sides, using the proper stylus after a careful cleaning. I transferred them at near full frequency because you rarely ever hear the high end information in these pressings on the reissues, which is not bad, given the age and era of early recording techniques, probably because Okeh was one of the first jazz labels that got into electric recording EARLY… along with Vocalion (check out my other auctions for similar rare hot pre-war jazz sides!)
Most of the masters for these are nonexistent or worse than these stock copies, and often these are the best examples, often they sound better than the reissues in many ways, save for a little surface noise… Often the CD remasters compromise fidelity and full frequencies to present a "clean" sounding, filtered copy. I would rather hear a little organic surface noise, in favor of a "live" true sound. I've rarely heard remastered compilations that excite me like these originals. (I did like the Robert Johnson collection though!)
I'm proud to bring this early jazz masterwork to you and archive this piece of history! I am an experienced archivist and musician/engineer, among other things, so I do take pride in my ability to get and extract high quality transfers from these challenging old records (I once did a red cross WWII field recording that was in pieces!) So I hope you can appreciate the level of fidelity and honest pure sound. Thanks for your interest in these great old records.
Thanks for looking and happy listening! Enjoy the whole record in near CD quality streaming audio. Happy listening!
