For the latest instalment of their inter-generational collaboration series, FRKWYS, RVNG has paired up legendary French experimental composer Arial Kalma, and Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, a similarly far-sighted contemporary synthesizer fetishist. The duo has much in common, musically at least, so it's hardly a surprise that this collaborative full-length is superb. Humid, exotic and hypnotic, with droning synthesizer rhythms and dub techno textures forming a backdrop for Kalma's snaking saxophone lines, new age melodies and reverb-laden vocal harmonies, all seven tracks are rarely less than spellbinding. The accompanying DVD - a film focusing on the duo's creative process - is equally impressive.
