CONDITION DETAILS Vinyl plays nicely (play-tested); occasional light-crackles. Cover looks great; light-scuffing and discoloration (front/back). Inner sleeve is original (lyrics), discoloration near top and one side. Spine is only partly readable due to noticeable wear. Shelf-wear along top-edge, more noticeable wear along bottom-edge; split near left side along bottom-edge, wear to corners. Opening is crisp with signs of light use. (Not a cut-out.)

ABOUT THE RECORD The concept for Red Headed Stranger was inspired by the Tale of the Red Headed Stranger, a song that Willie Nelson used to play as a disk jockey on his program in Fort Worth, Texas. After signing with Columbia he decided to record the song. The songs featured sparse arrangements. The story of the album is about a fugitive on the run from the law after killing his wife and her lover. The content consists of songs with brief poetic lyrics and arrangements of older material. Despite Columbia Records' doubts and the limited instrumentation, Red Headed Stranger was a blockbuster among country music and mainstream audiences. It was certified multi-platinum, and made Nelson one of the most recognized artists in country music. His recording of Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain became Nelson's first number one hit. The title of the album would become a lasting nickname for Nelson. In 2010, the album was inducted to the National Recording Registry.
