A young Philly outfit devoted to overcranked ampstacks and booze, Beach Slang are nonetheless notable also for their sheer heartfelt sincerity - there's nary a trace of arch irony to be found on this debut platter, rather a collection of bite-sized punk rock songs with as much melodic nous to offer as feedback-strewn aggression, and always bolstered by frontman James Alex Snyder's appealingly sandpaper-rough croon. 'The Things We Do To Find People Who Like Us' make be ridden with angst and ennui, yet maintains a curiously uplifting tenor, and it may even be worth whispering that this band could be the natural successors to the earthy glory of The Replacements.
