What was once a cross between a teenage project gone supernova and a side-project has evolved over time to become no less than a driving force in modern rock, but the last few years for Stone Sour have not been without incident. Central to this was the departure of guitarist Jim Root, calling foul of a supposedly commercial direction. Yet after the ambitious and ethereal strains of their earlier 'House Of Gold And Bones' record, the band have reacted to such adversity the only way they know how, by stripping things back to the garage-style attack of their origins and a style as beholden to classic rock grit as polished widescreen sweep. What transpires is a raucous rejuventaion for one of the mainstream American powerchord's most gritty and vital forces.
