Universal are excited to announce the vinyl reissue of one of the greatest soundtracks in cinematic history, the score to Raiders of the Lost Ark, coming on 180-gram heavyweight black vinyl August 11th 2017.

John Williams, in his more than 60-year career, has composed some of the most popular and recognizable film scores in cinematic history, to many of the highest-grossing films of all-time, including Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, and the first three Harry Potter films. A winner of five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, and 22 Grammy Awards, Williams’ stature as a composer is beyond compare. He places second only to Walt Disney for all-time award nominations.

The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), founded in 1904, is the oldest of London's symphony orchestras. In 1978, it shared in three Grammy awards for the score to Star Wars and ignited a fruitful relationship with conductor John Williams that would earn them worldwide acclaim and recognition.

Composed by John Williams, the score for Raiders of the Lost Ark was the only score in the series performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, the same orchestra that performed the scores for the Star Wars saga. The score is most notable for its inclusion of the iconic and now ubiquitous "Raiders March,” which came to symbolize Indiana Jones and was later used in the scores for all subsequent films. Raiders of the Lost Ark received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score in 1981.
