My own GRADING :

MINT (M):   looks new or may have 1-2 spindle marks on labels and absolutely clean surface (plays like new).

NEAR MINT (NM or MINT-):  have been well looked after; virtually flawless but may have some light hairlines or very minor marks or paper scuffs that should not affect play and sound..The occasional light pop or tic should be accepted. Some vinyls even look unplayed but may have noise.

EXCELLENT+ (EX+):  less then near mint, have few spindle marks and non sounding hairlines or scuffs (plays excellent).

EXCELLENT (EX):  may have a few surface marks, hairlines and scuffs (audible some tics), spindle marks or (and) a slightly dull surface. As with all vinyls there could be some background noise.

VERY GOOD+ (VG+):  less then excellent, have one or two superficial scratches that cause little surface noise.

VERY GOOD  (VG):  some scratches and marks on the vinyl but none which will stop the record playing well without jumping, but may have some clicks, surface noise and crackle, pops.

--A SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING RECORDS.
Unless buying vinyl that is Sealed or Mint condition, there will always be some type of surface sounds, or background noise, known as pops and crackling. If the LP has been played a couple of times, it can never be perfect. This is especially noticeable in classical and jazz records, which have quiet passages. You are buying LPs because they sound better than CDs, however the pops and crackling come with an LP.
