For a band big enough to sell out Madison Square Garden, Alt-J still come across as refreshingly strange proposition, flirting with grandstanding euphoria just as easily as folk-tinged introspection. True to form, on the one hand 'Relaxer' is the sound of the band throwing everything but the kitchen sink - including choirs, orchestras and computer game influences alike - into their delirious melange. Yet on the other there's the same melodic lilt and reflective grace that first endeared them to a surprisingly enormous fanbase five years ago, and the sense of a band as alarmingly ambitious as they are unafraid to be intimate.
