A laser etched album has become pretty popular these days. Quite a few bands are releasing albums with at least one side laser etched. This is a process using lasers to etch some kind of art directly onto the record's surface, and that won't affect the songs (if there are any, as sometimes there is no music on the etched side). But back in 1980, it was still new, and the New Zealand new wave band Slit Enz did it, and it's widely believed that they did it first!

American rockers Stxy did it early on, as well! The difference is that Split Enz has BOTH sides etched, where as Styx has only one side etched. Both came out in the early 80s, but it appears Split Enz beat Styx by a few months! (Split Enz's LP came out in June of 1980, and Styx was Jan. 1981.) Both are very cool collector's items to have, and both are included in this deal!

Split Enz also released a laser etched 7" single, with different artwork. The album has a cool effect when it is spinning on a turntable, and was released with different covers, using various colors. This is not the FIRST version, but with the purple and yellow colors, and the black border, it IS one of the first versions to come out! The Styx album has the word theater spelled differently on each side of the cover. The artwork etched on the Styx album is the name, and apparently decorative parts of the theater.

Both records look great, and should play fine. I never play collectibles or picture discs, so I can't vouch for the sound. Sleeves are in good condition, both showing their age, but still intact and looking good! Two rare and collectible items, from two totally different bands, and out almost at the same time! It doesn't matter who did it first, in this sweet deal, you'll get them BOTH!
