DESCRIPTION
Mose Allison - “Young Man Mose” Prestige Records PRLP 7137 (Mono) from 1958. Very hard to find Iconic Album from Mose Allison along with Addison Farmer and Nick Stabulas. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder. Deep Groove Yellow and Black Fireworks / Confetti Prestige labels with Bergenfield, N.J. address. “RVG” Machine Stamped in the run-off vinyl.

CONDITION

The Laminated Sleeve shows some light basic ring and edge shelf wear and some corner softening. There is a 3” split in the top seam at the opening edge. There is a name written in the upper left corner on the back cover. Still solid with no other stains, writing, tears, splits, etc. and I would rate it as VG+. The Vinyl is in Glossy condition looking like it was probably not played much. If you look closely can find a few slight scuffs and a hairline through the fourth song on the A-side. The hairline causes what I hesitate to even call “light tics”, it is audible but very soft maybe more like “slightly elevated groove noise”. I don’t think you would probably even notice it if you weren’t grading the album but it is there. Overall, I would still grade the LP as EX and aside from the one flaw mostly plays Near Mint. The labels show a few couple spindle trails but are otherwise Near Mint.

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less!
