New Orleans musician Wilson Turbinton, better known by his funk stage name Willie Tee, was responsible for a string of southern funk and soul classics during the '60s and early '70s. The two tracks showcased here, though, are not amongst his best known. They were featured on an extremely hard-to-find single of which limited copies exist, meaning those that do come to market tend to sell for hundreds of pounds. "Concentrate", though, is something of a gem: a breezy, positive, piano-heavy, psychedelic-era soul gem featuring all manner of eyes-closed guitar solos and a fantastic lead vocal from Turbinton. Flipside "Get Up" is similarly cosmic and uplifting in tone, with what sound like early synthesizer providing a futurist sheen th Turbinton's laidback jazz-funk grooves.
