Up for sale is a rare vintage 7 inch 45 rpm vinyl record from a Texas teen garage band.  It contains a great song about underage drinking.

Artist:   The Kings

Record Label:  JOX (Made in USA by Epstein Enterprises, San Antonio, Texas)

Record Number:  JO-045

Release Year:  1965

One Side:  It's The LCB [Donnie McConmick]  (2:00 Senisa Music ASCAP, An Epstein Enterprise Production)

Other Side:  If I Could Believe You [Donnie McConmick] (2:30 Senisa Music ASCAP, An Epstein Enterprise Production)

In my opinion, the star on this record is "It's the LCB".  LCB means "Liquor Control Board'.  The underage singer relates how he gets repeatedly busted for drinking, including once when he misreads the calendar and mistakenly celebrates his 21st birthday (too soon).  The Texas Liquor Control Board (LCB) was founded in 1935 to administer the Texas Liquor Control Act, a piece of legislation enacted in response to the repeal of Prohibition in 1933.  In 1970 (several years after this song appeared), the name of the LCB was changed to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC).

Both songs on this single were written by Donnie "McConmick" (as spelled on the record).  His name was actually Donnie McCormick (affectionately called "Donnie Mac"), and he would later gain fame as a drummer, percussionist (including on "the chicken coop"), and as founder of the notable Southern rock band "Eric Quincy Tate", which was based in the Atlanta, Georgia area.  According to a biography found on the website of GeorgiaMusic, McCormick was born in Kingsville, Texas, just south of Corpus Christi.  "It's the LCB" was his very first professional songwriting credit.  McCormick died in 2009 at the age of 64.
