MYSTERY DANCER / NIGHT OF LOVE ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by BASIC BLACK & PEARL produced by LEON ARONSON / executive producer MATT PARSONS. Original CANADIAN pressing on the WAM RECORDS label (WAMX 112), from 1980. Little known and the most elusive release by this Montreal studio group (led by label producer - keyboard player, Leon Aronson and singer, Sharon Lee Williams). A deftly sophisticated modern soul cum crossover disco item. MYSTERY DANCER is the side with the haunting piano - woodwind and treated keyboard intro before kicking off into a soulful groove. Infectious bassline and rhythm guitar / tight drums / fabulous lead vocals and backing singers / disco orchestrations et al. Great for DJs with booming production. The NIGHT OF LOVE side is also superb. Mellow intro and a spacey main theme that is a little unusual yet equally infectious with an understated disco kick / stoned e-piano motifs / congas and synth solo midway. Unlike certain other WAM label singles from Canada, this particular release (as far as we know) was never pressed up on Polydor for the American market or on the Bus Stop label in the UK. All the WAM label singles come with a generic, London Records Of Canada sleeve as they were the original distributors. Top copy, taken from an unplayed deadstock of records and played a couple of times before the recording of our soundclip. Seldom comes up for sale. Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG 

Vinyl is closer to shiny M- condition overall regardless of a few hairlines and faded old pressing marks plus, a few tiny pressing dots to the intro of the "Night Of Love" side. Booming production sound. Some light surface noises. A few soft pops to the very gentle intro of "Night Of Love" (as you can hear on our soundclip). Item taken from an unplayed deadstock of records and played once for the recording of the soundclip. The fragile, London Records Of Canada paper sleeve has general wear from storage (see photo). Small archive stickers (front sleeve) and archive numbers written in pen across the inner top area of the open side (back sleeve). Creasing and some small damages, here and there. Record will be sent in a brand new poly lined inner / white card sleeve and the original paper sleeve too. Rare 45!!!
