Many have asked for it, so I thought I'd put together a C.D. of forgotten Los Angeles Dance Bands on the radio from 1931-1935.  

Aside from Earl Burtnett, none of these orchestras ever made any commercial recordings.  Ray Herbeck's band made a few starting in 1939 but, for the first time ever, you can hear the first incarnation of his band in 1935!!!  You will also get treated to the whispering orchestra of Hal Grayson in 1932, which was a Hollywood mainstay but they never waxed a record available to the public.  And Slim Martin's Transco All-Americans???  This 1931 broadcast was part of a series made up of musicians from Arnheim's and Grier's orchestras.  As for Slim himself, he was most famous for being Abe Lyman's Trombone player trademarking a certain muted style of playing.  Not much is known about Bill Fleck, but this dance orchestra cooks along rather nicely.
