VINYL GRADES

MINT or M: PERFECT! This record looks like it has just left the manufacturer, with NO flaws what so ever. It looks as though I has never been handled. No scuffs or scratches, blotches or stains, no writing on the label.

NEAR MINT or NM: This record appears virtually flawless. A very minor scuff and very little else can appear on the vinyl. It should play without any noise over the flaw. The flaw is very hard to see. Vinyl is bright and shiny; label is clean and unmarked.

EXCELLENT or EX or VG++: Minor scuffs which are only slightly visible and do not interfere with the sound quality. No scratches. Vinyl is bright and shiny; label is clean and unmarked.

VERY GOOD PLUS or VG+: Some visible surface wear, very minor scratches and scuffs, but minimal impact on the sound quality. Vinyl will still have good luster; labels may have minor imperfections (small labels or initials, etc.) but otherwise clean.

VERY GOOD or VG: Vinyl will have noticeable scratches or scuffs that cause minor surface noise, but do not overpower the music. There will be no skips. Vinyl may appear somewhat dull and grayish. Labels may have small tears, tape marks, larger writing, etc. but still easily legible.

GOOD or G: Well-played, dull, grayish vinyl with deeper scratches and wear causing distracting surface noise (hisses, pops, cracks and other nasties). The record will still play through without any skips. Labels may be significantly defaced or damaged.

ALBUM COVER (also called JACKET, SLEEVE) GRADES

MINT or M: PERFECT! No writing, no tears or seam splits, no wear to the cover. Can be old, but look new.

NEAR MINT or NM: The cover looks as close to perfect with only minor signs of wear and or age. Minor impressions to the cover (due to the outer edge of the vinyl resting inside) may be acceptable, however the artwork is as close to perfect as can be.

EXCELLENT or EX or VG++: Artwork is still as close to perfect as can be. Some impression to the cover (minor outer ring wear) but no ink wear. Some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled and obtrusive to the eye. The corners can show white, meaning slight wear. No seam splits or writing on the cover or taped repairs.

VERY GOOD PLUS or VG+: Cover is clean but may have minor writing or marks and may show slight wear. There may be just the start of ring wear, where the disc has created a raised area on the cover that resulted in the ink wearing off the paper. There may be slight discoloration or staining, minor seam wear, but no splits or tears. Corners may have small creases or fraying.

VERY GOOD or VG: Covers are worn and used. Seams may be starting to split. There is moderate ring wear, but the artwork is still attractive. There may be yellowing or discoloration and there may be writing, labels, or marks. Corners may have damage or creases and there may be scratches that otherwise damage the artwork.

GOOD or G: Seam splits, large marker writing, major seam splits, significant ring wear, damaged corners, tears, cuts, gouges, masking or duct tape seam repairs, or other flaws and damage.
