Ever wonder what it was like to turn on the radio.....in 1930?!?!?
Well, my years of collecting EXTREMELY RARE radio broadcast air checks and radio transcriptions has allowed me to have a deep understanding about what the culture of radio was like more than ninety years ago!!!
Now, for the first time, some of the more unusual and fun shows from 1930 are being brought to life here on this CD.
All transfers come directly from discs that I own, so there is no second generation audio quality.
So, sit back, relax, and enjoy life...in 1930!!!!
1) Evening In Paris Perfume Program - Pgm 7 Pt 2 The setting is a nightclub and you are invited to sit at a table and watch the show unfold. While the original broadcast was 30 min no complete shows are known to exist. I'm unsure who the performers are. But It's a BIG Orchestra and the singers are fantastic. So, here is the last 15 minutes of this gem from 1930 a) The Woman In The Shoe
b) Si vous l'aviez compris c) viennese waltz d) Cryin For The Carolines e) Painting The Coulds With Sunshine f) Program close
2) Radio and Television Revue - 1930 series Pgm 7
While Paul Specht's orchestra did a number of transcriptions for the institute during 1931 and 1932, the band is unknown on this broadcast. The singing Servicemen provide the vocals on this broadcast. Here is the first year the Radio and Television Institute of Chicago tried their hand in radio advertising and boy did they know how to party!!!
a) Happy Feet b) She's A Very Good Friend c) Go Home And Tell Your Mother d) You Darlin' e) Program close
3) Helbros Watch Company Program - Pgm 5 - Pt 1&3
A delightful...almost complete....broadcast of dance music where we hear the Bag O Tuners Orchestra and the Helbros Harmonizers. While this long forgotten watch company ceases to exist their delightful radio program carries on! a) Just A Little Dance Mamselle b) I'm Needin' You c) Cheer Up d) Tomorrow Is Another Day e) program close
4) National Refining White Rose Gasoline Program - Pgm G Pt 1,2,4 - March 1930
Ooooooo This is nice! Ace Brigode and His White Rose Gasoline Orchestra play for us on this really hot radio program. The Enarco Boys handle the vocals a) Crying For The Carolines b) Hanging On The Garden Gate vocal Enarco Boys c) He Looks At Her and goes Ha Ha Ha vocal Enarco Boys d) My Man e) Ain't Cha?
5) The Dixie Symphony Four - Pgm 7 For a complete change of pace, we listen to some Southern spirituals as presented by the Dixie Symphony Four. Imagine as if you were on a steamer cruising down the Mississippi listening to this AMAZING vocal quartet. This program was recorded for Flexo studios in San Francisco.
a) Sing You Sinners b) By and By, I'm Going To Lay Down This Heavy Load
c) Ain't It A Shame
d) I Got A Home In That Rock
e) unknown
f) program close
6) Johnson's Wax Program - Pgm H Pt 1,2 Nov 1930 Norman Brokenshire was a very popular announcer with a very distinctive voice in the early days of radio. Here he not only announces the music but quips and jokes with Jerry Macy. A fun little portion of a program sponsored by Johnson's Wax. a) Program Open b) Medley: Lady Luck, Somebody Loves Me, Sweet And Low Down c) Norman Brokenshire and Jerry Macy joke and banter d) Ragtime number e) There Is A Tavern - Vocal quartet
