Boston released their third album, titled 'Third Stage', in 1986. It had been EIGHT years since the second album ('Dont Look Back') was released. Work on this third record began in 1980. Boston tried to get out of their record contract with Epic (who was owned by CBS Records), but the case was tied up in the courts for many years. Add the fact that Tom Scholz was a perfectionist, and worked at a snail's pace, and it's no wonder it took that long!

A deal was worked out, and the band moved to MCA Records. Only Scholz and singer Brad Delp remained, at this point. (Delp, of course, passed away in 2007.) This third release gave the band their only number one hit with the ballad "Amanda", and went on to sell over 4 million copies in America! Not quite the numbers of the first two records, but still a success, nonetheless. The cover continued with the spaceship motif this time, and a gorgeous shot of Planet Earth, obviously taken from space!

Today's rockin' good deal is a vintage 1986 picture disc of that stellar third album 'Third Stage'! It's the album cover's artwork on the A side, with song titles and credits on the B side. Not sure how this sounds, but very likely has surface noise. (Sometime in the 90s or so, they worked out the bugs in picture discs, and got them to finally start to sound good!)

Vinyl looks great, with only one or two very light surface marks that I can see. And they are hardly noticeable! The record has a clear rim all around. No scuffs, scratches, or gouges. And this is one of the only FOUR band and label sanctioned Boston picture disc released! (Each of the first four albums had proper picture discs made, and the debut album had a 2016 reissue on picture disc. ANYTHING else made of Boston's work is bootlegs!)

This will come in a heavy, clear plastic sleeve. No die-cut sleeve with this one. Come to think of it, I don't think I've actually ever seen this in a die-cut sleeve! But a nice start to collecting all four, and I have the original, 1976 debut picture for sale, as well. Grab them both, then it's TWO down, and only TWO to go!
