A rare chance to own this set of six HMV 78s - the 1933 HMV 'Duke Ellington Album' issued in conjunction with his 1933 visit to Britain - a very rare item.

Includes the original advertisement leaflet (see photos).

Copies of the album were only available on subscription (17 shillings and sixpence, in 1933!) and only 1,000 sets were produced.

I purchased this set (and three others which I will also be listing) from the original owner c.1982. An elderly gentleman, he described the thrill of hearing Ellington's orchestra on tour in the UK in 1933, in particular the moment when Ivie Anderson stood up under a single spotlight, to sing 'Stormy Weather'.

Titles are:

(Gradings shown in brackets.)

Jazz Lips/Harlemania HMV B6351 (E to E+)

Saratoga Swing/Sloppy Joe HMV B6352 (E);

Old Man Blues/Japanese Dream HMV B6353 (E);

The Mooche/Mood Indigo HMV B6354 (E- to E);

That Lindy Hop/Mississippi Dry HMV B6355 (E to E+);

Black and Tan Fantasy/Dicty Glide HMV B6356 (E- / E).

Album is faded in places but unusually for albums of this period, is intact, with the spine nearly all present and NOT hanging loose (PLEASE EXAMINE THE PHOTOS).

** Also included, for completeness' sake, is a list of the members of Ramsgate Ladies Swimming Club 1933 (senior & junior members), which for some reason was stuffed into one of the sleeves!
