ABOUT THE RECORD Gloria, by Laura Branigan, was released as the second single from her debut album Branigan. The song is an English version of the Italian hit Gloria, which made the Branigan a star. The song charted at No. 2 for three weeks. Gloria's total Hot 100 residency of 36 weeks established a new record for a single by a solo female act. Cash Box would rank the track as No. 1. Certified platinum for sales of two million in the US alone, Branigan's Gloria was also an international success, most notably in Australia where it held the No. 1 position for seven weeks. Gloria was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The National Hockey League (NHL)'s St. Louis Blues began using Laura Branigan's Gloria as their unofficial victory song during the 2018–19 season, when they went on a franchise-record 11 game winning streak. A local radio station, Y98, played this song for 24 hours following their game 7 victory over the Dallas Stars on May 8, 2019. The origins of this unlikely song becoming the Blues' unofficial victory song are because of a bar in South Philadelphia called Jacks NYB. Gloria reappeared on the iTunes singles chart thanks to the trend, going to No. 3 after the Blues won the Stanley Cup.
