Italian imprint Tuff Kong's latest album release is a collaborative affair featuring two stalwarts of the UK hip-hop scene: former Low Life regular and experienced mic man Micall Parknsun and beat-maker Giallo Point, a producer with a dizzying amount of self-released instrumental sets to his name. "The Magnum Opus" more than lives up to the premise of its title, combining detailed, sample-heavy beats inspired by the deeper end of the "golden era" hip-hop spectrum with Parknsun's on-point, lyrically dexterous raps. It's mostly rather laidback, with the pair preferring a smoky atmosphere and surprise sample sources to banging beats and booming basslines.
