While their regular albums are rather good, we've always had a soft spot for Karate Boogaloo's KB Mixtape series, where the Melbourne-based "cinematic funk" outfit delivers new interpretations of tracks that have been sampled on both cult and well-known hip-hop records. Volume three begins with a cheeky, organ-heavy take on 'Brothers Gonna Work It Out', but elsewhere they deliver loose, funk-fuelled covers of tracks originally composed for films and TV shows. The results are almost impeccable, with highlights including a dubby, laidback take on the theme song from 'Diamonds Are Forever', a heavy and fittingly creepy version of the main title theme from 'The Shining', and a surprisingly jazzy interpretation of Dolly Parton sing-along '9 to 5'.
