A little about me.
I am an vinyl collector of 32 years and once I started I never stopped amassing some 10,000 to 15,000 records! I was very fussy and had particular rule sets about what I bought, this wasn’t always about condition but more about wanting only originals, first pressings and limited editions. Almost all genres were of interest and in a naive way I think I thought I would be able to buy and find every record by every artist I liked. I rarely achieved any complete collections by any artists, but did get some! Unfortunately for me a lifetime of trawling through records shops, charity shops and car boot sales has left me where I find myself now - having to sell maybe all of what I have.
At the moment I have decided to sell all but my favourite artists, but that doesn’t mean I am keeping my most valuable records. So I’ll probably sell all my Radiohead records but keep my Ride ones, it’s just personal preference.
My collection is probably about 60% 7” singles to 40% 12” and LPs. These records take up loads of room and are split between three locations so I am going to work shelf by shelf with what I can get to first. So I might sell the LPs by an artist and later on sell the 7” singles. So it’s probably worth keeping me as a seller if you like what I have and are looking for more records by an artist you like.
My rule set followed this logic. All Pop, Rock, Indie I would buy the smallest format i.e. 7” single or 10” then 12” if that was what was available. I reversed that logic for Dance, Disco, Funk, Soul, Rap etc working from the 12” down. I would always want the first pressing, be it the limited edition or if the limited edition came later the more ordinary version. I would describe myself as a completist so the records by and large always had to have the correct sticker, inners, inserts extras with them download codes etc.
I have many mint records and many in varying degrees of condition. I am honest and will try to explain where and how I bought the records to give a clue about their condition. I have played all records through at least once in my lifetime so no records will jump.
I don’t ask a lot other than you love and cherish them like I have. I can post quite easily most days and the post is working well at the moment. I wont bother with Discogs as this seems to be the best way, and will let listing like this one just go on in case anyone wants it.
*Update* - So I have now sold 50 items and all my 27 Coldplay records. The feedback I have had has been good and so I feel I am on the right track with my descriptions, grading and pricing. Most rewardingly I have been able to help others complete gaps in their collections or find a long lost item they have wished for and this has given me the most satisfaction. I've added this update in really because I am asking for guidance on what to list? I can continue as I am or I can diversify the music a bit. At the moment on the most accessible shelf (in my profile picture) there is 80's Indie (twee, C86, some odd grunge, 90's alternative, 2000's alternative, Punk/New Wave, 80's Pop, but also Rap, Gansta Rap, Hip Hop, Electro, Dance 80's, 90's, 2000's, Rave/House/Techno, Acid Jazz, Reggae, 50's Rock n Roll, Country, 60's pop/bands running through into 70's (if they lasted that long). All are albums but elsewhere I have Disco/Soul/Funk/Motown (Loads of this stuff), then 70's rock, Jazz (all types), Soundtracks, Easy listening, Crooners/Lounge, then of course the obligatory thousands of singles in all genres.
Really please just email of the back of a listing and ask for any genre of music. I know it can be difficult to ask for specific records and that doesn't necessarily work but wide genres will and then you can browse what I have? I just really want to get this stuff out there to those that are interested and want it.
Other than that if we do go back into the past with the genres please bear in mind I would have bought all this stuff second hand so the records will be in varying degrees of condition. But I won't put anything on here I can’t justifiably sell for £2.49 (my bottom price for anything). And look any problems/issues let me know - I'm definitely not here to rip anyone off, no way.
Early 80’s then for my Cocteau Twins collection, 1986 album Victorialand with matte/glossy mix cover. A nice record with the vinyl and inner in great shape. The inner needs glueing but the outer sleeve has a bit of wear. There is an annoying sticker rip on the top right and a bit of a dent in the spine. I think I bought this from the record exchange in Brum.
