Close to the Edge is the fifth album by the British progressive rock group Yes. In June 1972, shortly after finishing the recordings, drummer Bill Bruford left the band, forcing the other members to find a backup before beginning their new tour in the United States. Close to the Edge established a recurring trend on Yes to include a single "epic" song much longer than the others, completely occupying one side of the record. This was repeated again on the albums Relayer (which included "The Gates of Delirium") and Going for the One (which included "Awaken"). It is a superb composition, extremely orderly in which each instrumental voice has received great care in its billing.
