ABOUT THE RECORD As the nineteenth century drew to a close, England ruled all of Australia and New Zealand, the subcontinent of India, half of Africa, half of North America, and islands around the globe. The British Empire was the richest and most powerful the world had ever known. The fact fired the imagination of her peoples-from land gentry to the men and women who served them. There was a great serge of patriotic pride in all things imperial. Music and Voices from the Height of the British Empire draws upon unique historical recordings, plus several arranged especially for this album, to present memorable aspects of the popular culture of the Empire at home, during that glorious age when the sun never set on the British Flag.
