Private Dancer is the third solo album by American singer Tina Turner. It was released on May 29, 1984, through the Capitol Records record company. The recording of the album took place in various studios in England, and they were overseen by four different production teams, including Rupert Hine, Martyn Ware. After her successful passage through the Ike & Tina formation, which triumphed in the sixties and seventies, the artist was going through a difficult musical and personal moment, separating from her abuser and by then producer and husband Ike Turner. This album was the turning point in her career, launching her back to stardom. The title track of the same name, which gives the album its name, was composed by Scottish musician Mark Knopfler in the early 1980s.
