DESCRIPTION

Cal Tjader Quintet & Quartet - “Tjader Plays Tjazz” Fantasy Records 3278 (Mono) from 1959. Hard to Find Original Deep Groove Mono Red Vinyl Pressing of this great Jazz album from Cal Tjader in both Quintet and Quartet settings. The Quartet features Tjader on drums plus Eddie Duran, Al McKibbon and Bob Collins. The Quintet has Tjader on vibes plus Brew Moore, Sonny Clark, Bobby White and Gene Wright. This is a slightly later repress / reissue of the the Original 1956 release (Fantasy 3-211) which had different cover art. Deep Groove Red Vinyl Mono pressing on the Maroon with Gold / Champagne Print Fantasy Mono labels. In the Original Laminated Sleeve with no Cutouts, Promo markings or Barcode. Includes the Original Printed Fantasy Inner Sleeve.

CONDITION

The Laminated Sleeve is in nice shape. There is some slight shelf wear and corner softening/wear. There are a couple small pieces of celo taped wrapped horizontally around the spine, I don’t know why as it is not split or worn. Probably removable. Still super solid with no splits, cutouts, writing, tears, stains, etc. and would rate VG+. The Vinyl itself is in clean Glossy condition. If you look closely you can spot a some light scuffs and faint hairlines. A nice VG visually but plays VG+ or better all through with just a few spots of light groove noise and a handful soft tics, nothing that detracts from the music. May be further improved with a better cleaning than I can give with my Discwasher brush. There are some light spindle trails but the labels are otherwise Near Mint.

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. I provide Play Grades as a courtesy but only guarantee the Visual Grade. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less! If you are not satisfied that a purchase meets my description, I will do what I can to make it right if you give me the chance and work with me! Please feel free to check my feedback.
