After giving birth to her daughter Lourdes, Madonna began working on her new album with producers Babyface, Patrick Leonard and William Orbit. . This is a pop and dance album that incorporates many elements of electronic music, a different approach than his previous works. Upon its release, the album received acclaim from critics, who praised the singer's new musical direction. They defined it as their "riskiest" work, of a mature and moderate nature; they also complimented Madonna's voice. Ray of Light won four Grammy Awards out of a total of six nominations.
