Long Beach, CA ska/punk/alternative rock band Sublime released their debut album '40 oz. to Freedom' on June 1, 1992. That landmark album just turned THIRTY year old! Sublime pretty much called it quits after lead singer Bradley Nowell passed away in 1996. Sublime is one of those bands that got more popular after a band member died, and they broke up. The debut album has artwork with a sun on its cover. (RIP Bradley. You set the world on fire, and your music is still loved to this very day!)
TWENTY years ago, in 2002, Erika Records, by way of Skunk Records, released a set of four different color sun face picture disc LPs. Each one faithfully reproduces that sun face, but in a different color. There's a blue one, a pink one, a green one, and an orange one. (The original cover's sun face is yellow.) These quickly sold out, and no more were ever made. Individually, these can go from $50 to $60, and up to nearly $100 each! In today's rockin' good deal, you'll get the ENTIRE set, all four colors, and for a nice price!
Each one is used, but they all look like they're in great condition. There's only a few very light surface marks on a couple of them that I can see. (I can't vouch for their sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl, such as pic disc or colored records.) Overall, they are still all shiny and clean! Two will come with their original PVC jacket with hype sticker. Two will come in a generic clear jacket.
One more note: the songs on each pic disc are all the same, and the B side artwork and tracklisting and credits are the same on each one, as well. The actual songs on the pic discs are a smaller number of tracks than the original vinyl and cassette tape releases. (Original releases have 22 or 23 tracks. These pic discs have only 10 songs on them.) They had to cut some tracks off to fit everything on a single album. And this is being sold as a COMPLETE SET, so please don't ask me to sell individual pic discs.
Collector's items such as this rare set of the four colored pic discs are not just a nice collectible to have, it's an investment! These have gone up in price in the twenty years since they came out. Here's your chance to own the complete set, available now, and at a nice price! Sublime may not exist as a band anymore, but thankfully we have lots of great music to remember them by!
"Take a small example, take a tip from me
Take all of your money, give it all to charity
Love is what I got, it's within my reach
And the Sublime style's still straight from Long Beach!"
