Crosby, Stills & Nash is the first studio album by American group Crosby, Stills & Nash, released on Atlantic Records in May 1969. The album spawned two singles, "Marrakesh Express" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes". , which peaked at No. 28 and No. 21 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was a strong debut for the group that propelled them to instant stardom. Along with The Byrds Sweetheart of the Rodeo and The Band Music from Big Pink albums, Crosby, Stills & Nash helped usher in a sea change in popular music away from the band aesthetic of the late 1960s. based on rock music with strong guitars. Crosby, Stills & Nash presented a new construction on the roots of rock, using folk, blues and jazz without specifically sounding like a mere duplicate. Not only through their voices, all three meshed their strengths: Crosby through social commentary, Stills with his diverse musical abilities and for weaving elements of folk and country into complex rock structures, and Nash for his pop melodies, with the order to create an amalgamation of great attractiveness. The album proved highly influential on many levels of the North American music scene during the 1970s. The album's success created gravitas for the group within the industry, and sparked interest in booking them into different acts, many of which fell under the management team of Elliot Roberts and David Geffen. Strong sales, combined with the group's emphasis on personal confessions in their compositions, paved the way for the success of the 1970s singer-songwriter movement. Their use of personal events in their material without resorting to subterfuge, their talent with vocal harmonies , the cultivation of meticulousness in the studio, as well as the distinctive character of Laurel Canyon that surrounded the group and its associates, established an aesthetic for a series of acts that defined the "California" sound of the following decade, including The Eagles, Jackson Browne and the post-1974 Fleetwood Mac, among others.
