Manna House Workshops, founded & run by Ms. Gloria DeNard, was a long-standing music school in East Harlem with an emphasis on jazz. This 45 with some of their students, a custom press of no more than 10 copies, was produced around the time of the school's founding in 1967. I Got a Dream, written by Ms. DeNard, brims with optimism. Her son Kenwood Dennard, now a well-known drummer & educator, makes his recorded debut here at age 11 & grabs ears right from the start. Erma Thornton’s vocals have candid, open-hearted 20th century NYC assertiveness, fitting for the ambitious lyrics & vision of "a world where there is nothing & no one to stop us from doing our thing." Sadly, Ms. DeNard passed away in 2020. See this film for more about her & Manna House: youtu.be/pFj4UyXOh0E
