The second Black Sabbath full-length to feature vocalist Tony Martin, after The Eternal Idol; their 1989 follow up, Headless Cross, would surprise many upon its release with its increased focus on satanism and the occult, with many heralding the project as a definitive return to form and up there with the strongest releases from either of the Ozzy or Dio heydays. Hefty, revitalised and shrouded in gloom, the album would mark the beginning of the I.R.S. label days upon being dropped (burned) by one too many majors. Reissued for reappraisal, one spin of, 'Kill In The Spirit World', or the Brian May featuring, 'When Death Calls', is enough to stake the claim that Sabbath were an opera of three acts, not two; all equally deserving of reverence and replays.
