From the beginning, Los Espiritus always said that their songs have a bit of Gospel. Sure, with that mix of alcohol, bars, and nightlife on their first album, very few really understood what that was about. But with Gratitude there are no longer doubts. They are devotional songs, almost like rites, celebrations, macumbas as well. They look like six aborigenes gathered in a fireplace, singing to the night, to the seas, to go all together to the moon, to a shadowless palace, or a poor street child. Maybe it's that percussion, or maybe those choruses, or those guitars that make the group sound like a tribal band. And "Gratitud", as the name implies, looks like a ritual of thanksgiving. One of those tribal encounters where, through the tireless musical repetition of the instruments, the frenzied beat of the drums, and the continuous dance near the fire, the participants cease to be people and end up being possessed by spirits.
