The Second World War made concert touring inconvenient, and very high taxes made it non-remunerative. Thomas was duly engaged to star on the Westinghouse Radio Program in 1943-46, accompanied by the Victor Young Orchestra. He probably reached his widest audience during this period, although his practice of performing songs exclusively in English has perhaps left him less well-remembered by today's musical "purists" than he should be. Nevertheless, many songs tailored for him to sing have gone on to become standards, such as the version of "The Lord's Prayer" by Albert Hay Malotte and the arrangement of "Home on the Range" by David W. Guion.
The Westinghouse program: NBC network origination

John Charles Thomas (Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, September 6, 1891 - Apple Valley, California, December 13, 1960) was an American opera baritone known for his exuberant singing style and powerful voice. (The year of his birth is not quite certain. Some sources give it as 1889.)

He began by singing in Gilbert and Sullivan and musical comedies. His opera debut was in Aida as Amonasro in Washington DC in 1924. From 1925 he sang at La Monnaie in Brussels, London in 1929, Chicago and San Francisco in 1930, and finally the Metropolitan Opera, New York, where he stayed until 1943.

He was equally comfortable on both the operatic and the concert stages, though his advocacy of songs in his native English, particularly American songs, has left him less well-remembered than perhaps he should be. Nevertheless many songs written for him to sing have gone on to become standards, such as "The Lord's Prayer" by Albert Hay Malotte and "Home on the Range" by D. Guion.

A Quick NOTE ON GRADING AND SHIPPING:

As you can see from my feedback, I try hard to earn your POSITIVE FEEDBACK and FIVE STAR RATINGS.

If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING.

Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
