Die verstorbene Doris Troy war eine der großen amerikanischen Soul-Sängerinnen. Sie wurde von James Brown entdeckt entdeckt, als sie als Platzanweiserin im Apollo Theater arbeitete, wurde Doris Gründungsmitglied der Sweet Inspirations zusammen mit Cissy Houston und Dionne und Dee Dee Warwick, wurde von den Beatles ihrem Plattenlabel Apple unter Vertrag und sang als Backgroundsängerin bei Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon), den Rolling Rolling Stones (You Can't Always Get What You Want), Carly Simon (You're So Vain) und auf vielen anderen legendären Aufnahmen.
Ungewöhnlich unter ihren Zeitgenossen war auch, dass sie eine vollendete Songwriterin; sie war es (unter dem Namen Doris Payne), die den Klassiker 'Just One Look' zusammen mit sieben anderen Titeln - darunter der britische Hit 'What'cha Gonna Do About It' - auf dieser, ihrer Debüt-LP bei Atlantic aus dem Jahr 1963. Produziert von dem legendären Artie Ripp, ist Just One Look bis jetzt irgendwie der Wiederveröffentlichung auf Vinyl entgangen...smaragdgrüne Pressung!
