LIBERTY BELL

This Corpus Christi outfit was originally called The Zulus but when Carl Becker, who ran the J-Beck/Cee-Bee record labels, became their manager circa 1966/67 he persuaded vocalist Ronnie Tanner to join the band and changed their name to Liberty Bell. They quickly recorded a Yardbirds cover as their first 45 and with this line-up released two other 45s. They also recorded two versions of an Al Hunt composition entitied I Can See which was never released but was to have been Cee-Bee 1004. Chris Gerniottis came in from Zakary Thaks to replace Ronnie Tanner on vocals on their last two 45s. The band disintegraged whilst recording these, but the owner of the Back Beat label which concentrated on black artistes considered Chris one of the best vocalists he'd heard. Eva's retrospective album and the equivalent Collectables CD includes all the band's 45s (including the unissued one), Eveline Kaye an Al Hunt number and Reality Is The Only Answer, a superb psychedelic-punk song written by Chris. It also includes both sides of Gerniottis' next band's 45. They were called Kubla Khan...(Fuzz Acid & Flowers)
