Up for sale is a jazz record with interesting vocal arrangements by an expert of the art of vocal arrangement.  In addition, this album is of note because eight of the tracks feature the Oscar Peterson Trio.  What's more, it has a great cheesecake cover!

SPECIAL NOTE:  This is a jazz LP by Bill Thompson, NOT the country LP of the same title by Hank Thompson.

There are actually two vocal groups performing on this LP.  For the four vocal only (a capella) tracks [Caravan, Perfidia, Heat Wave, and Rain on the Roof], the singing is by 18 unidentified voices.  The jacket notes describes these as "the cream of Los Angeles singers".  For the remaining eight tracks, the vocalists are Alice Armbruster, Sue Lyttle, Ralph Brewster, and Tom Kenny.  It is in these eight tracks that Oscar Peterson and his Trio play.  In addition to jazz pianist Peterson, the "trio" consist of Barney Kessel (guitar), Ray Brown (bass), and Stan Levey (drums).
Incidentally, Peterson has an amazing solo during the last track on Side I (Grandfather's Clock).
According to the jacket notes, vocal arranger Bill Thompson was 30 years old at the time of this LP release.  He was born in Portland, Oregon and schooled in Spokane, Washington.  He spent three years at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music.  He worked on such TV and radio shows as Dinah Shore, Johnny Mercer and Tony Martin.  He had also worked with Gary Crosby, Nat King Cole, Gogi Grant, and the Hi-Lo's.
