The sixth studio album by Chicago punk band Screeching Weasel, ‘Anthem For A New Tomorrow’, heard them strike out into a far catchier and melodic style of songwriting. This led them to being heralded by many as among the pioneers of pop-punk, preceding the likes of Bowling For Soup or Green Day. It makes sense; propagandistic imagery mixed with uptempo arrangements hear the album occupy a neat, lesser-trodden zone, when the pop-punk sound might’ve rang slightly purer and rawer than the most mainstream rock funnels allow nowadays.
