Hard to Find Original 1966 Deep Groove U.S. First Stereo Pressing of this great Hard-Bop / Soul Jazz album from Organist Jimmy Smith and Guitaris Wes Montgomery  and featuring backing from Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Grady Tate, Ernie Royal, Ray Barretto, Joe Newman, Richard Davis, Danny Bank, Bob Ashton, Jimmy Cleveland, Jerry Dodgion, Richard Hixon, Quentin Jackson, Melba Liston, Jimmy Maxwell, Tony Studd and Jerome Richardson. Arranged and Conducted by Oliver Nelson. Produced by Creed Taylor and Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder at his Englewood Cliffs, NJ studio. On the Deep Groove Black with Silver Print Verve “T” labels and in the Original Gatefold Cover with No Cutouts, Promo markings or Barcode. This is a First Pressing as indicated by the Matrix / Vinyl Runout markings which read:

CONDITION

The Sleeve is in good shape. There is some shelf wear and corner softening/wear. There is some dirtiness and a couple brown coffe spill dots on the back and inside the gatefold. The back bottom seam is part split 2” in the middle and the top about 1/2” at the opening edge. Very solid with no other splits, stains, tears, cutouts, writing, etc. and would rate VG. The Vinyl is in clean Glossy condition. There are some light scuffs, marks and hairlines - no actual scratches i.e. something you can feel with a fingernail. At least a good VG visually and plays largely VG+ or better, with maybe a bit of groove noise and a couple random soft tics - might be further improved with a better cleaning than I can give with my Discwasher brush. The labels show some light spindle trails but are otherwise NM.

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If I provide Play Grades it is done as a courtesy but I only guarantee the Visual Grade. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less! If you are not satisfied that a purchase meets my description, I will do what I can to make it right if you give me the chance and work with me! Please feel free to check my feedback.
