Record: Fair
Sleeve: Fair
Inlay: Fair
M (Mint):
- Record: The vinyl is absolutely perfect, in factory-fresh condition. There are no signs of handling or play. It should have no surface noise, pops, or clicks. Essentially, the record should still be in the same condition as when it was manufactured.
- Sleeve: The sleeve should be in the same condition as when it was manufactured. There should be no seam splits, bends, creases, writing, or any other noticeable flaw. In other words, it should look as if it was just purchased from a retail store.
- Inlay: The inlay or insert should have no creases, folds, writing, discoloration, or any other noticeable flaws. It should appear as though it has never been handled or removed from the sleeve.
NM or M- (Near Mint):
- Record: The vinyl is nearly perfect, showing only very minor signs of handling or play. There may be a very light scuff, but it should not affect play.
- Sleeve: The sleeve may have the slightest signs of wear, such as minor corner dings, but should still appear almost perfect.
- Inlay: The inlay or insert may have very minor signs of handling but should still appear almost perfect.
EX (Excellent):
- Record: The vinyl shows signs of having been played, but there is negligible loss in sound quality. It may have a few light scratches or scuffs but nothing that would disrupt the listening experience.
- Sleeve: The sleeve may have some light wear and/or creasing, with minor ring or edge wear. However, it is still a good collector's copy.
- Inlay: The inlay or insert may have some minor wear from handling, such as light creases or slight discoloration, but overall it remains in great condition.
VG+ (Very Good Plus):
- Record: The vinyl has been played often but has been well cared for. There are noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch, but these do not significantly affect sound quality.
- Sleeve: The sleeve shows signs of wear and age, such as ring wear, seam splits or bending, and fading. However, it remains structurally sound.
- Inlay: The inlay or insert shows signs of handling, with some creasing, slight discoloration or minor marks, but no major flaws.
VG (Very Good):
- Record: The vinyl has been played many times and displays surface scuffs and light scratches. Surface noise may be present during quiet passages but does not overpower the music.
- Sleeve: The sleeve may have moderate wear, seam splits, tape, marking, or other damage, but it is still usable.
- Inlay: The inlay or insert has moderate wear, with some creases, discoloration, and/or small tears, but nothing missing.
G+ (Good Plus):
- Record: The vinyl has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with consistent background noise, scratches, or groove wear.
- Sleeve: The sleeve has significant wear and tear, such as heavy ring wear, seam splits, discoloration, and/or defacing. It is intact but not in a condition that is collectible.
- Inlay: The inlay or insert has heavy handling wear, with significant creasing, discoloration, small rips, or minor pieces missing.
G (Good):
- Record: The vinyl has heavy wear and scratches and the audio quality is low. Plays without skipping but background noise will be noticeable and may distract from the music.
- Sleeve: The sleeve is easily noticeable as worn and aged, with significant ring wear, seam splits, tape, writing, or other defects that affect aesthetics.
- Inlay: The inlay or insert is in poor condition, with heavy creasing, staining, writing, and/or tearing. There may be significant pieces missing or defaced.
F (Fair):
- Record: The vinyl is heavily damaged and may affect the playability. There will be major noise, possible skipping, and visible deep scratches.
- Sleeve: The sleeve is severely damaged with major seam splits, tape, writing, or water damage, to the point where it barely serves its purpose of housing the record.
- Inlay: The inlay or insert has severe damage, with large sections possibly missing or defaced, heavy staining, or other major wear.
P or W (Poor or Worn):
- Record: The vinyl is unplayable and may have deep scratches or damage that causes the record to skip. Only to be sold for rarity value or as a collection filler.
- Sleeve: The sleeve has major damage or is possibly missing, with heavy wear and tear that may include completely split seams, heavy water damage, or significant defacement.
- Inlay: The inlay or insert is severely damaged or missing, with significant portions gone or defaced beyond recognition.
