"SONNY ROLLINS VOL. 1" BLUE NOTE BLP 1542 MONO from Toshiba EMI JAPAN - Vinyl LP from 1994 - 1500 Series - EXCELLENT + to NM... Beautiful Copy. Powder Coated Sleeve... RARE Edition. With OBI. No Reserve.
The 1994 heavy special powder-coated jacket has a real old-school look and is still bright and looks near mint. If you frame album covers... this is a beauty! All seams and corners are clean and look close to new. LP... EX for side 1. NM for 2. Very clean and bright. A few light scuffs on 1... see pics. Very light. Can't feel them. Light sleeve scuffs I'm thinking. Same for the labels. Bright white. No marks writing or spindle wear. This did not see much play. The BLP 1500 insert is in great shape with no marks or writing. A very cool and rare piece of Blue Note / EMI Japan 1500 Series history.
Blue Note BLP 1500 Series LP reissue series from Toshiba EMI Ltd of titles from Blue Note's 1500 series. See pics for insert!
Special features of initial BLP 1500 Series pressings were "powder-coated jackets" ... a nod to how Blue Note originals from the 1950s were made.
Sonny Rollins, Volume 1 was Sonny's his first effort for the Blue Note label. The original LP record, Blue Note release BLP-1542, did not distinguish the volume number in the title. It was simply called Sonny Rollins.
Tracks: All pieces by Rollins unless otherwise noted. "Decision" - 8:03 "Bluesnote" - 7:01 "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?" (Burton Lane, E.Y. "Yip" Harburg) - 6:20 "Plain Jane" - 10:00 "Sonnysphere" - 9:36
Players: Sonny Rollins - tenor saxophone Donald Byrd - trumpet Wynton Kelly - piano Gene Ramey - bass Max Roach - drums
Design Cover – Reid Miles Engineer – Rudy Van Gelder Liner Notes – Leonard Feather Photography – Francis Wolff Producer – Alfred Lion
Recorded on December 16, 1956 at Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey.
Made in Japan. This is an RARE, Toshiba EMI BLP 1500 Series pressing with Sonny Rollins and an all start lineup! Very clean. With this early EMI Japan reissue, the cutting and pressing were done using the original MONO Master - sound quality is really superb! No Reserve. Enjoy!
