Sunshower was the second album from celebrated Japanese soul singer Taeko Onuki, originally released in 1977 and now repressed by Nippon Crown on heavyweight white vinyl. The cast of players who fed into the rich, ensemble sound of the album is head-spinning, including the recently departed Ryuichi Sakamoto and other Japanese icons such as Haruomi Hosono, Katzuni Watanabe and Yasuaki Shimizu. The stand out hit of the album is 'Tokai', reportedly heavily influenced by Stevie Wonder and widely considered one of Onuki's greatest songs, musically and lyrically. Steeped in late 70s warmth and exploring all manner of moods across its run time, it's a pure delight to sink into - an album of solid gold song craft for all seasons.
