MARIA CALLAS: LA DONNA, LA VOCE, LA DIVA. 10-LP boxed set. Gui Dei Della Musica. 33 1/3 RPM. 1981 Italian release.
An opulent, deluxe edition of some of Callas's live recordings. Each record, except for #8 (which is a recital) contains highlights from individual operas, along with discographical information as to where and when recorded.
Each of the ten records is housed in a gatefold album, which opens to reveal a libretto, a synopsis, an essay, and a separate 16-page booklet covering aspects of Callas's life and career, with many photographs, many of which I had never seen before. On the back of each gatefold is a list of the recordings in this set and the one that followed, and a track listing for each LP.
Note that *all* of the text -- booklets, liner notes, etc. -- is in Italian.
The set is in excellent condition. The LPs appear to be unplayed -- bright, with no visible scuffs or scratches. The booklets are all excellent as well. Some of the individual gatefold sleeves show some wear at the corners (see photos of all), and the last one has some rubbing on the back due to its contact with the box. The box itself is near fine -- some bumps at corners, as may be seen in the photos, hinge intact.
A beautiful set for the Callas completist.
