Swedish death metal gang Entombed made an immediate impact with the release of their debut album all the way back in 1980. It is a soot-black verse with plenty of Satanic overtones, not least the title which refers to the Left-Hand Path belief system, which is itself discussed in Anton LaVey's book The Satanic Bible. The album is defined by its buzzsaw guitar tones and hardcore drums, with heavily detuned riffs getting thrashed out on each and every tune. Distortion also abounds and when you add in the guttural slurs of the vocals it all adds up to a proper death metal classic.
