In 1991, Canadian rock superstars Rush released their fourteenth studio album, and called it 'Roll the Bones'. That rock and roll masterpiece gave us the hits "Dreamline", "Ghost of a Chance", and the title track. The album was a bit more commercial than previous efforts, but still sounding like Rush, and still awesome!
In 1992, the band released a special, limited edition shaped picture disc in the UK. (The term roll the bones means to roll a pair of dice.) The A side is dice, and the track "Roll the Bones", and the B side is a song from the 1989 'Presto' album, ("The Pass"), and an interview track with Alex Lifeson titled "It's a Rap Part 1 Alex Lifeson Speaks".
And who does the rap in the song "Roll the Bones"? Why, that's actually Geddy Lee, with some effects, of course! And the cover of the full album is great, as well, and continues with the theme of dice (and actual bones)!
And let's make it a double! I'll add a very cool holographic CD with two songs, and "It's a Rap Part 2 Geddy Lee Speaks". The holographics are hard to photograph, but it's awesome, and has dice on both sides. It starts with the song "Roll the Bones". The second song is also from 'Presto', and is titled "Anagram", (officially "Anagram (For Mongo"). Third is the Geddy Lee interview track. The perfect companion piece to the "Roll the Bones" picture disc!
The vinyl looks really, really good, and there's only a few very light surface marks that I can see. Mainly on the B side, (which is the side everyone wants to hear! Lol). I can't vouch for the sound quality as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records. But a sweet and vintage Rush collectible to have anyway! The CD looks great, and is still all shiny and clean. Case and insert are immaculate. Pic disc jacket only has one corner slightly folded. No splits.
A really nice gift idea for that Rush fan in your life. With Christmas right around the corner, make someone happy this year with a rare Rush shaped picture disc. Of course, collectors of wild, shaped pic discs would love this as well. Or is it time you roll the bones yourself, and grab this bad boy for yours truly? No matter what, Rush merch is always a good thing!
